Informations about Printed RFID Cards

Plastic cards are a common application for an RFID chip. Many companies opt for RFID cards to provide staff and visitors with a secure environment. A chip integrated into the card controls access and authorizations. The smart plastic card legitimizes the card holder and identifies them at any point or door. The most popular RFID cards are currently the EM4200 and TK4102 read only RFID cards as well as the programmable RFID cards Mifare, Mifare Desfire and NTAG216.

The RFID chip in the plastic card contains a code that can be read by a reader. When the reader is approached, the RFID chip transmits the stored data via a micro-antenna on the card. The chip on the card draws the energy required for this from the magnetic field generated by the reader, which is why an RFID card does not have a battery. The software in the reader decodes the code received from the card and forwards the data for processing.
