The TWN4 MultiTech SmartCard LEGIC 42 is a combination of the TWN4 MultiTech LEGIC 42 (RFID) with an integrated contact card reader/writer (ISO7816). Users can read and write almost any 125 kHz, 134.2 kHz and 13.56 MHz transponder that supports all major technologies from various vendors such as ATMEL, EM, ST, NXP, TI, HID, LEGIC etc. and many ISO standards such as ISO14443A / supports B (T = CL), ISO15693 and ISO18092 / ECMA-340 (NFC).
The integrated smart card reader is designed for easy integration into various applications.
The readers can be programmed with a scripting language for autonomous execution of even complex commands such as enrolment procedures, increment / decrement functions and much more. The reader supports host communication via USB.

- Integrated 18 kB flash memory, e.g. for storing non-volatile data that can be accessed by the user
- Support for direct chip commands
- CCID and PC / SC 2.01
- Two integrated SAM sockets (Secure Access Module), expandable by two SAM sockets
- 2 GPIOs
- supports fast central (re-)configuration via network and wireless interface with TWN4 CONFIG Card
- 3D construction data (STEP) available on request
RFID (radio-frequency identification) uses electromagnetic waves to identify specific objects. In many cases, these are plastic cards (customer cards, access controls, door openers, etc.) in which an RFID chip is integrated. With the appropriate RFID reader, people or ID cards can be identified or access controls and codes on customer cards and ID cards can be read. An RFID system consists of a transmitter (RFID card) on which all the necessary information is stored, as well as a reader, the RFID reader, for reading this data.
