Function of a magnetic card
When encoding the magnetic strip with the card printer Evolis Zenius Expert, whether HiCo or LoCo, the magnetic particles are magnetised in the direction of the north or south pole. Each character is encoded on the magnetic strip with a bit group consisting of the values 1 and 0. The polarity of the magnetic particles defines the value of the bit. By alternately magnetising these particles on the magnetic strip, information can be encoded in binary form, which can be read by a suitable reader.
Hico & LoCo
The coercivity is the strength of a magnetic field that is required to change the data on a magnetic strip. Here we distinguish between LoCo and HiCo:
HiCo magnetic strips (High Coercivity) have a higher protection against external damage.
LoCo magnetic strips (Low Coercivity) have less protection against external damage.
With encoders you can encode plastic cards with magnetic strip. Special software is required for the coding. Decisive for the right coder are the cards you use and the reading system you have installed.
